A Day of Illustration and Storytelling with Petr Horacek

To kick start World Book Day week, Kindergarten, Reception, Year One and Year Two girls were lucky to have been visited by author and illustrator Petr Horacek on Friday 28 February.
In the morning, he talked to the girls about his books and how he illustrates them. Petr’s illustrations in his books are so colourful. He talked to the girls about how he started to draw when he was very young. He showed them some of his old illustrations and how this inspired him to start writing stories.
Petr is an inspiring storyteller and shared amazing anecdotes of his life and where he grew up in The Czech Republic, alongside sharing some of his amazing children’s books and illustrations with them. The girls were gripped by his stories. It was lovely to hear and see the smiles and laughter on all of the children’s faces.
In the afternoon, Petr wowed the girls with his amazing illustrations, showing them how to create their own in his style. The girls suggested animals he could draw, such as a flying pig and a caterpillar on a skateboard and gave them some fantastic tips. The girls were then given the challenge to draw their own person, animal or flower and made beautiful colourful creations that they would add to a magical garden mural.
This was all put together in an amazing mural with all the girls’ illustrations added to it. We cannot wait to see it proudly on display in Prep. What a fantastic
day!
