A Storybook Celebration: World Book Day at EHS

Preparatory | Senior School | Sixth Form

07 March 2025

On Thursday 6 March, Edgbaston High School was transformed into a world of imagination as pupils and staff embraced the magic of World Book Day! From classic characters to modern favourites, students and teachers alike took part in the fun—though there were certainly a few debatable book-or-film-inspired choices along the way!

In the Senior School, the much-anticipated Story in a Jar competition saw students get creative, capturing the essence of a book in a single jar. With a winner and runner-up for each year group, house points for every entry, and bonus points for the house with the most submissions, it’s all to play for! The results will be announced next week—good luck to everyone who took part.

Meanwhile, in Prep, the love of reading was at the heart of the day, with pupils enjoying stories and activities that brought their favourite books to life. Read more about the World Book Day celebrations in Prep here, including a fantastic visit from author Petr Horacek, a creative Book in a Box competition and a wonderful parade of book character costumes.

Reading in Prep and literature in Senior are true anchors of our education at EHS, helping to develop curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of books. Across the school, there was a real buzz as we celebrated the joy that literature brings to our learning. Days like this remind us of the power of storytelling—not just in the classroom but in the way it brings us together for a little fun along the way.

Here’s to another fantastic World Book Day—same time next year?
