Art Inspiration

Senior School

21 June 2024

Year 10 and 12 Art students enjoyed a trip to Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park in Warwickshire last week. As they made their way to the main house containing the galleries, they were treated to views of a stunning landscape showing beautiful grounds, a lake and a bridge.

A contemporary sculpture trail was installed along the walk to the house so pupils stopped on route to discuss the meaning of the sculptures. The girls were able to admire Louise Bourgeois’ famous spider sculpture previously exhibited outside of Tate Modern.

In the morning, they visited three temporary exhibitions where students were able to interact with a wide range of artwork exploring themes such as Ancient Chinese culture, the landscape and the spirit within.

After lunch and some time spent in the beautiful gardens taking photographs, there was an opportunity to explore the permanent collections at Compton Verney.

Pupils particularly enjoyed the Naples collection in which 18th century Italian paintings were surrounded by interactive contemporary installations to transport you to Naples. A thoroughly inspiring trip!
