Celebrating Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas
08 November 2024
Wednesday morning’s assembly was a vibrant celebration that brought our school community together to celebrate two significant festivals: Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas.
The assembly began with an informative talk about the religious and cultural elements of these festivals. Diwali, known as the festival of light, is celebrated by Hindus around the world to symbolise the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
Bandi Chhor Divas, a Sikh festival, commemorates Guru Hargobind’s release from imprisonment along with 52 other kings. Rather than leaving alone, he ensured their freedom too. Sikhs celebrate this act of compassion by lighting their homes and Gurdwaras, symbolising freedom and justice.
The assembly then transformed into a lively celebration as pupils from Bhangra club took to the stage. They performed a colourful and dynamic dance, blending Bhangra with
Bollywood moves, demonstrating how Sikhs and Hindus celebrate this special occasion.
