EHS is lucky to manage the Community plot at the Guinea Gardens allotments, which are part of the social history of Birmingham. It hosts classes for a wide range of curriculum subjects and is home to our Prep School Gardening Club.
This week Year 5 continued their ecology studies by conducting some biological sampling at the site. We are pleased to announce our pond is back up to full health following its refurbishment two years ago, hosting water boatmen, diving beetles, newts and many efts! (Efts are juvenile newts).
The girls also found a huge variety of invertebrates including springtails, weevils, snails, spiders and woodlice amongst the vegetables and in the apple orchard.
The allotment was clearly a hive of activity even before the children arrived on the scene.
