Exploring Science and Play at Thinktank

Preparatory

04 April 2025

On Wednesday, 2 April, Year One girls visited Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum to further explore the topic of ‘My Body’, which they have been studying throughout the Spring Term.

The day began with a lively ride on our school minibuses, setting the tone for a day full of learning and fun. Upon arrival, the girls started their adventure in the Thinktank classroom, where they learned about the functions of vital organs such as the heart and lungs. They had the opportunity to check their friends' heart rates before and after physical exercise, giving them a hands-on understanding of how our bodies work. They also explored which foods are beneficial for maintaining a healthy body and which ones are less so.

From there, the girls ventured into the interactive museum, where they delved deeper into understanding the human body. They enjoyed exploring the various exhibits and had the chance to visit other sections of the Thinktank museum, expanding their knowledge further.

One of the highlights of the day was the outdoor Science Park, where the girls could experiment with different forces and enjoy water play. Some got a bit wetter than others, but it was all part of the fun!

The day concluded with a visit to Mini Brum, a miniature world where the girls took part in role-playing activities. They had the chance to act out various roles, such as working on a building site, taking a canal boat ride, visiting the doctor and dentist, running a café, and even styling hair at the hairdresser’s.

The trip was both educational and immensely enjoyable. The girls had a fantastic time and many expressed an interest in returning with their families for another visit!
