Highlights of Our Fundraising Achievements
Preparatory | Senior School | Sixth Form
13 December 2024
We are delighted to share the incredible efforts and achievements of our school community in supporting charities this term. As a school, this has made a significant impact to the charities outlined below.
Here are the highlights of what we have accomplished:
Jeans for Genes Day
The first charity event of this year, Jeans for Genes Day, raised an impressive £496.98. This will go towards supporting the charity that aids genetic research in the UK. The money raised will go towards various charity groups that help support both children with a wide range of genetic conditions, such as Down’s syndrome, and Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a genetic, life threatening connective tissue disorder that affects all tissues, arteries and internal organs making them extremely fragile.
Year 7 Readathon
The Year 7s raised a remarkable £1,653.33 during their readathon for the Edward’s Trust, a charity close to our school’s heart. The Edward’s Trust was started by the parents of Edward Dent, a young boy who sadly passed away from cancer when he was seven and a half years old. The charity is a bereavement service for children, young people and adults within the West Midlands area. The Trust supports around 600 families a year, which equates to around 3,000 family members.
Wear It Pink Day
Friday 18 October 2024 marked the annual tradition of Wear It Pink Day. Looking fabulous and pink, we contributed £515.58 to support Breast Cancer Now, the UK’s largest breast cancer charity. Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer to be diagnosed in the UK, so research is vital to help produce a future where detection of cancer is both quicker and treatment more effective. Staff also contributed through a pink themed fake it or bake it cake sale.
Remembrance Day and the Poppy Appeal
11 November marked Remembrance Day and the Poppy Appeal fundraising in school. We are awaiting the total from the British Legion, and we will update you as soon as we have the final amount. We wanted to take the time to thank all those who made the service on Remembrance Day so memorable and poignant.
Children in Need Talent Show
The Talent Show has become a highlight of the busy school year, and this year was no different. We would like to thank each one of you who have participated in the talent show and all of you who turned up to support. Some of our favourite highlights included the group dances from Year 11s and Year 8s, the beautiful performance from our winner Sarah S, and of course our special guest Pudsey. All in all, we raised £1021.51 in aid of Children in Need.
Marine Conservation Society
A special shoutout goes to Auria A in Year 8, who, as part of her Cognito project, raised £40 by making bracelets to sell for a charity working to reduce plastics in the ocean; the Marine Conservation Society. Auria is a shining example of someone in our school community who has fundraised for an issue that she cares about. We hope to see many more examples of students doing the same during this academic year. If you would like to fundraise for a particular charity and have an idea to do so, please do let us know – we would be very happy to help support.
Birmingham City Mission
Eight students from across year groups visited Birmingham City Mission to wrap presents for families in need. The room was like Santa’s Grotto, with toys laid out for us to select on behalf of different families. This trip was enjoyable as we wrapped enough presents to be delivered to 52 families who struggle to make ends meet. Often the names of these families have been put forward by friends and loved ones, without the children involved knowing. For many this means a really heartwarming surprise on Christmas Eve.
Save the Children Christmas Jumper Appeal
Even in arguably one of the busiest parts of this term, we have still been able to raise money for charity through the Save the Children Christmas Jumper Appeal. While the final total is yet to be confirmed, we wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for wearing your festive outfits and for contributing to this international charity, that operates in around 115 countries worldwide, making a difference to the lives of millions of children.
In total, we have raised (drumroll please) £3,687.40 so far this term—a phenomenal achievement that truly reflects the spirit of our school. This does not include money for Save the Children or the Poppy Appeal, so will we update you all further in the New Year.
Thank you once again for your kindness and hard work in supporting these causes. You have all made a real difference, and we look forward to continuing this momentum in the
coming term.
