Music on a Summer Evening

Preparatory

21 June 2024

One of the Prep School’s most enjoyable annual events took place at the end of last week when an audience of parents and guests joined us for the Summer Ensembles Concert. The weather outside was quite gloomy but inside the Hall our young musicians shone brightly with some absolutely sparkling performances.

In just one hour we were treated to confident and toe-tapping musical items from our ensemble groups. Prep Orchestra opened the concert with keyboards, string and wind instruments included, closely followed by the Year 3 and 4 Choir. Our String Ensemble entertained us next and then our youngest Prep girls sang a selection of songs from ‘The Gingerbread Man’ which they have been learning in their Choir sessions. The actions, energy and smiley faces added even more fun to the evening.

As has become a tradition, our Concert featured just one solo performance from Our Prep Young Musician of the Year.  This year the worthy winner was Catie Tran who delighted us once again with her piano playing of ‘Voyage of the Sampan.’

Our next performers were the Flute Ensemble and our Advanced Ensemble who both gave excellent performances and the last item featured the Year 5 and 6 Choir. The girls gave very rousing performances of two very powerful songs.

The concert ended with all performers and staff singing the school song. The event was one of the best Prep Summer Concerts Mrs Hartley could remember and was very much appreciated by her as her last one as Head of the Preparatory School.
