Christmas is, for many, an important part of their Christian faith. However, what I have felt, this year, more than ever before is that, regardless of faith, belief or background, it is a time to remember the importance of love, generosity and service. Over the past couple of weeks, school has been awash with the excitement of Christmas. Amidst the stormy weather and fewer daylight hours, the warmth of shared experiences and family time has been clearly evident throughout school. Girls have worked in their forms to create wonderful wreaths for their classroom doors. The Octagon and Prep Hall have been filled with music, song and dance with a plethora of festive performances and it was wonderful to welcome so many families into school to join us for our Seasonal Celebration.
The dedication I have witnessed from the staff involved in preparing our Christmas performances has been astounding. Providing our pupils with the opportunity to perform in front of an audience, not only helps to build confidence with their spoken language but also gives families a shared experience; it is a chance to come together as a school community and to create happy memories to look back on.
However, the highlight for me this week was the incredible feast that was prepared by our fantastic Kitchen staff who cooked the most delicious Christmas lunch for our pupils on Tuesday. The dining room was filled with music and laughter as the girls pulled crackers and tucked into a wonderful Christmas meal. Some of the catering team had dressed up as elves and, to whoops of delight from the girls, took to the stage with, what appeared to be, a carefully choreographed dance! The only way to lure the girls away from the revelry was in the form of a conga line, which snaked all the way out of the dining room and down onto the playground!
The girls have certainly helped to create so many lasting memories this term and I am so grateful to the entire EHS community for making me feel so welcome since joining as Head of EHS Prep School in September. I would like to wish all of the girls and their families a peaceful Christmas break and a happy and healthy New Year.
With best wishes
Mrs Hobson
