Nursery to Year Six Highlights
13 December 2024
What a busy last week of the Autumn term it has been in Nursery, Kindergarten and Prep filled with delightful festive celebrations. The teachers have shared some of the exciting activities the girls have enjoyed this week. Take a look at the gallery below for pictures.
Festive Cheer
Nursery was filled with festive cheer as we celebrated the holiday season in style! The fun began on Monday when the girls tasted mince pies, although they were not too fond of them! On Tinsel Tuesday, they embraced the Christmas spirit by wearing their sparkly tinsel and festive jumpers. They then had the opportunity to visit Father Christmas and each received a present to take home and place under their trees. The festivities continued with a visit to the Christmas Fair, where the girls played fun games and made our own decorations. On Woolly Hat Wednesday, pupils wore fabulous Christmas and winter themed hats. They even made party hats in preparation for Throw a Party Thursday!
It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas...
Reception girls embraced their final week in school full of creativity and surprise. Christmas cards have been written; clay snowmen dressed; angels have been sprinkled with glitter; calendars stuck together; and 3D snow scenes completed. Festive colours brought their robin creations to life as well as brightening up the winter display and classrooms.
At the beginning of the week, the girls wrote and posted their letters to Father Christmas, hoping they get to him on time. Some unusual requests included, ‘a sheep and a horse’ and even, ‘a boat, a plane, a helicopter and a skateboard’. The excitement continued on Tinsel Tuesday as the girls visited Santa in his enchanting grotto. Each girl had the opportunity to meet Santa, share their Christmas wishes, and to receive a gift. The morning ended with a delicious Christmas lunch, served by our very own EHS elves, complete with a life-size snowman and festive music. Woolly Hat Wednesday kept us all warm and Throw a Party Thursday was the highlight of the week where the girls had even more fun and party games!
Festive Fun!
Year One have really enjoyed their final week of the Autumn Term by taking part in lots of festive activities. The week began by making themselves into Mrs Claus by using collage material. The girls were really pleased with the final results. Tuesday was a day full of festive fun. It started by visiting Santa in his grotto. Christmas lunch followed this, where girls pulled crackers and told jokes while listening to festive music. They particularly enjoyed the ice cream for dessert. Tuesday afternoon the girls had their Christmas party. They played lots of party games, danced and even had a go on the bouncy castle.
Vehicle designers
Year Two have thoroughly enjoyed their Design and Technology project, where they created vehicles to help Father Christmas deliver presents. The project began with the girls studying different vehicles, identifying key parts such as doors, number plates and indicators. They then moved on to planning and designing their own vehicles, carefully considering where to place elements like doors, windows and seats. The fun really began when they started building their creations, demonstrating great perseverance as they cut out windows and doors. Their hard work paid off as all the girls created an amazing and beautifully decorated vehicle. The girls should be incredibly proud of their fantastic creations. Well done, girls!
Author Visit
Year Three had a wonderful experience with a live, online author visit from Serena Patel, the author of the Anisha, Accidental Detective series. The girls, who have been reading the first book in the series as part of their group reading sessions, kicked off the event by sharing their favourite parts of the story with the class. During the visit, Serena talked about the inspiration behind her writing and encouraged the students to start thinking about their own detective story ideas, drawing on her creative process.
A highlight for Year Three was seeing the name Edgbaston High School appear on the screen during the interactive question and answer session. The girls also enjoyed taking part in live voting activities, making the experience even more engaging and memorable.
Tudor Christmas Play
On Wednesday, after many weeks of rehearsals, Year Four pupils performed their Tudor Christmas play to a large audience of parents, family and friends. The
girls were spectacular - speaking clearly and loudly. They moved around the stage with confidence, just like professional actors.
There were many facts and interesting pieces of information about Tudor life, for example Brussel sprouts! came from the Tudors. The costumes were colourful and vibrant. The
pupils really flourished throughout the rehearsals.
“Exciting” Zoe
“I found it scary to talk in front of loads of people, but I really enjoyed this performance” Tilly
“The story of the play was exciting. St George was fighting the dragon” Jashvita
“Nervous but confident” Falak.
Decoupage decorations
Year Five have thoroughly enjoyed the Seasonal Celebrations. Decoupaging reindeer was our highlight of Christmas Craft and the results are fantastic. After many minutes of patience and careful sticking, they have created a decoration to be displayed every year. Great work, girls!
Festive sports festival!
Last week, our Year Five and Year Six pupils took part in a festive-themed Multi-Skills Sports Festival, showcasing their agility, coordination, and teamwork. The event featured a range of fun and challenging activities designed to improve balance, speed, and fitness. Every pupil gave their best effort and demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship. The festival was a great opportunity for pupils to stay active, build new skills, and celebrate the festive season in a fun, energetic way. Well done, to everyone who participated with such enthusiasm.
MFL Christmas QR Code Treasure Hunt
Our Year Six Language Leaders (Ceana and Khulthum) devised six questions to be used for a Christmas Around the World challenge. Girls from Years One to Six then followed a Treasure Hunt by scanning QR codes placed around the Prep School. The girls were divided into groups. On scanning each code, a question about a Christmas tradition in another country popped up on their iPad. There were three possible answers. If they got the answer correct, they could progress immediately to the next QR code. If incorrect, they had to wait until all groups had answered before answering again. Once all QR codes had been scanned, the winning group was awarded a small prize.
Winners in Year 1 were Simran, Malaika, Sophia, Humaira and Kainaat. Year 2 Ameerah, Liyana and Florence. In Year 3, Rabeeyah, Prani, Reem, Ranye, Samah and Olivia. In Year 4, Aliza S, Natasha, Haya, Zoe D, Zoe HJ and Tilly. In Year 5, Yasmin, Avanya, Nell, Diya, Gurbani, Pepper, Aisha and Esme. In Year 6, Sofia ML, Ariane, Nailah, Nemah and Zoe M.
The most popular fact learnt was that in South Africa fried caterpillars from the Pine Tree Emperor Moth are eaten as a Christmas treat. A wonderful start to the Christmas period! Joyeux Noël!
We wish all our parents a lovely festive season with their families and look forward to seeing the girls back in January after a well-earned rest.
