A Joyful Carol Service

Senior School | Sixth Form

13 December 2024

The Senior School community gathered for a memorable afternoon for our annual Carol Service, held at the local St George’s Church. Despite the brisk and frosty December air, the event saw its best turnout yet, with pupils, parents, and staff filling the church with festive cheer.

The service featured performances from the School Chamber Choir and Senior Choir, whose harmonies brought the spirit of Christmas to life. The evening was further enriched by thoughtful readings delivered by the Head Girls and students from Years 8 to 11, each capturing the essence of the season.

Anne Howarth, a long-time attendee, described this years' service as one of the best in her decades of visiting. The energy in the church was amazing, as the congregation joined together in singing Christmas hymns, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere.

Church Reader Mrs. J. Uff led the proceedings and brought the service to a close, as the congregation was escorted out to the enchanting sounds of the church organ.

The festivities continued back at the school, where the girls enjoyed mince pies and warm drinks in the dining hall, a perfect conclusion to a wonderful evening.

This year’s carol service was a celebration of community, tradition, and the joyous spirit of Christmas—a highlight of the festive season at Edgbaston High School.
