22 November 2024
It is such a privilege to lead an all-girls Prep school and to see the incredible breadth of opportunities that we offer our girls. We empower our girls to ensure they are well placed to overcome the challenges they will face in the wider world, whilst society continues to work towards equality for women. I am passionate about ensuring our girls are given the inner confidence to believe they can achieve anything they set their minds to and, so, it has been wonderful to see STEM activities in evidence in every part of the school this week from our Nursery girls to our Year Six pupils.
The Bebras Challenge introduces computational thinking to students worldwide. This exciting challenge takes place in schools, under the supervision of teachers, over a two-week period every November. Last year, over 3 million students from more than 80 countries participated! This year, Mrs Eveleigh has been at the forefront of supporting our EHS Prep girls with this challenge... and the girls have absolutely smashed it! Our Year Six pupils have come out with scores which rank them top across the West Midlands area and I am so grateful to Mrs Eveleigh for her incredible work driving forward our digital learning.
This week, we have also welcomed Audrey Pantelis, our EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity) Advisor into school. She led a thought-provoking assembly for the girls and spent time visiting classrooms and speaking with pupils and staff. Audrey has been working closely with the Senior school for the past few years and will be supporting Prep staff to develop the curriculum to ensure it is relevant for our girls in 2024 and beyond. During her assembly, Audrey talked about the importance of celebrating differences and not being afraid to ask questions. She shared the different language she uses to describe how she looks and explained to the girls the importance of respect and kindness. We are most grateful to Audrey for her time and look forward to continuing to work closely with her over the coming years.
