I continue to be surprised by the incredible opportunities available within our wonderful school and this week has been no exception. I was lucky enough to be invited to join our Year Six gardeners as they took part in their weekly Gardening Club led by the fantastic Mrs Hobbs.

As we walked down the track to the allotment, I had to pinch myself, as I felt as though I had been transported to a remote farm track in the Devon countryside. What I have discovered about EHS Prep is that it is rare that we shout about our amazing facilities, the wonderful teaching staff and the extraordinary pupils.

To call this an ‘allotment’ does not do it justice. It is a little paradise, featuring a diverse orchard filled with apple trees whose branches are heavy with fruit. The ground is dotted with fallen windfall apples and the air is filled with incredible scents of lavender, rosemary and mint from our herb beds. A variety of bright, orange nasturtiums pop like little suns, intermingled with beautiful dahlias and cheeky pumpkins poking out from under the greenery; there is even one growing on top of the hedge!

In the corner of the garden is our large, compost area and there is a brilliant homemade watering system in situ. A large glasshouse nestles at the edge of the garden and a charming, somewhat ramshackle, wooden shed holds our gardening tools.

What our girls do best is to make the most of opportunities and our ‘allotment’ is brimming with opportunities for our engineers, geographers, food technicians, artists and scientists as well as a chance for the girls to enhance their wellbeing and develop their spirituality, awe and wonder.

All of the girls have continued to work hard this week and to be inspired by our passionate and dedicated staff. I am particularly grateful to Madame Hennous who this week has treated our girls to a wonderful French breakfast and then inspired the entire school to take part in a Languages Assembly to mark the European Day of Languages.

To see girls from Reception to Year Six confidently speak about different French speaking countries of the world was such a joy. I am currently deciding whether the Seychelles or Switzerland are my favourite French speaking countries, but choosing between chocolate or swimming in the sea is a tough choice to make!

In the meantime, have a restful weekend.
