In the Prep Department this week the girls have been working hard on their assessments but have also found time to enjoy learning in many other subjects and the sunny weather outside.
Girls always enjoy their Art lessons and visiting our Art Studio and this week has been no exception. Year 3 have been mixing colours to match leaves they have collected from the school grounds. They have been learning about tints, tones and hues in previous lessons. Year 4 have also enjoyed painting but using a different range of colours. They have been studying the famous works of the artist Piet Mondrian and creating their own individual versions using primary colours.
Geography lessons have also offered some different opportunities this week. In Year 1 the girls welcomed Denver’s Mum who joined Mrs Mohamed in talking to them about Kenya as part of their study of different countries of the world. The girls had researched facts as part of their flipped learning homework which they shared and enjoyed jumping like the Masai people when they dance.
In Year 6, the topic of study has been rivers. Using their practical skills they built models to represent the upper, middle and lower courses of a river. They were trying to include the source, delta, estuary, tributary, oxbow lake and mouth.
Outside in the playground making daisy chains has occupied many girls whilst others have enjoyed learning new games in French, introduced by our Language Leaders. They have clearly been inspired by their recent trip to France.
In our assemblies this week we marked International Nurses’ Day with a look back in time to the Flying Nightingales who flew in the air ambulances in World War II. This was of particular interest to the girls in Nightingale House and also linked well with our fund raising focus for this term raising money for West Midlands Air Ambulance.
We also considered ways of helping to keep healthy mentally in this Mental Health Awareness Week. The girls were full of good ideas which they were happy to share. We noted how we might feel a range of different feelings throughout the day and how these can affect our behaviour.
Next week we look forward to seeing parents at our Year 1 Open House, Year 3 and Year 6 Galas, finals of the Dragons’ Den event for Year 6 and the Year 5 and 6 Teatime Concert. We have another busy week ahead.
