Pitch Perfect

Senior School

17 May 2024

Our Year 7 Football Team headed to Kings High Warwick recently for the annual GSA (Girls’ Schools Association) Football Festival.

The team were armed with a Bluetooth speaker, snacks and a ten-seater camping bench, which was the envy of all the other schools. What more could you need? Expertly led by Kimaya and Grace, the team took to the pitch for a warm up, before playing three group games. After some outstanding goals from Grace and Josephine and some excellent defending by Kimaya and Erin, Team EHS was placed into the Shield Competition for the afternoon.

After a quick stop for lunch and fuelled by strawberry laces, we took to the pitch for our group matches against Northampton and Bedford. The girls showed great character and resilience beating both teams comfortably. The midfield of Darcey, Joanna, Alayna and Linda worked incredibly hard to repeatedly cover both ends of the pitch, assisting the attack and tracking back to support the defence. Two wins meant we had gained a place in the final against Woldingham School. This was a well-fought match and EHS dominated possession with only a few blades of grass, the post and the cross bar getting in the way of securing a goal. Unfortunately a goal for Woldingham, against the run of play, resulted in the game ending 1-0.

We’re incredibly proud of the strength of character and determination shown by team members and it was a bonus to finish runners up in our first Year 7 tournament. A special mention goes to Ellie, who had never played a competitive match of football before, let alone in goal! We will also keep an eye out for some special interviews that took place on the day that may feature in the GSA’s 150th anniversary video!
