News from the Head of Prep

Preparatory

11 April 2025

As I reach the end of my second term in post as Head of EHS Preparatory School, I have been reflecting on the importance for us as a school to be able to change and adapt. This week, Mrs Eveleigh (our wonderful Head of Science) and I have judged entries from the British Science week poster competition. The theme this year was ‘Change and Adapt’ and we were looking for:
•    Creativity in approach – innovative angle on the content or creative interpretation of the theme...thinking outside the box
•    Content – clear, accurate and informative about a STEM topic
•    Effective communication – presented in an engaging way

The standard of the entries was exceptional, from our youngest girls in Reception, who created a bright and colourful, interactive, 3-D posters to incredibly detailed and distinctive explorations in Year Six.

As I looked through the entries, it was fascinating to witness the unique and individual ways every pupil had chosen to address the theme of ‘adapt and change’. However, this was not a surprise to me. Our girls are supported and encouraged to be fearlessly female, to forge their own, unique path and to never be afraid of how others might view them. They are encouraged to be intellectually curious, to take risks and to stretch and challenge themselves.

I am incredibly proud of everything EHS Prep School has achieved but excited about the way we are changing and adapting to ensure we are providing a truly transformational educational experience for our girls. Since September, there has been significant investment in our STEM resources, in particular with regards to robotics and coding. Girls are still highly underrepresented in the world of engineering, science and mathematics and yet I know that our girls are achieving well-above the national average in coding competitions. Perhaps this is because our all-girls environment means that nothing is off-limits. There are no barriers to what the girls can achieve.

Over the Summer holidays, we will be transforming our teaching and learning space for our girls from Reception-Year Two. Reception will join us in the main Prep building and we will be developing a free-flow outdoor learning area for the girls. Our Nursery and Kindergarten will continue to be located in Westbourne to allow for further expansion and development.

I believe that at EHS Prep School, our strength is our ability to change and adapt; and of this I am extraordinarily proud.

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter break with your families.

Mrs Hobson
