I am incredibly proud of the way in which our EHS values run through the Prep school. This week has been an opportunity for us to really look at our inclusivity and the girls have enjoyed spending time developing their understanding of neurodiversity and looking at ways to celebrate this. Our assembly which focused on British Sign Language week was inspirational, with girls proudly sharing tales of family members who are deaf and we all learnt some basic signs such as good morning, how are you and of course more biscuits please!
During my weekly learning walks, it has been lovely to see the girls working hard to develop their independence both in and out of the classroom. Independent learning and risk-taking are such important skills and it can be all too easy for girls to give up when faced with challenge. Taking ownership of their learning and applying taught knowledge and skills are key to ensuring a secure breadth of understanding. Regular use of scaffolding and higher order questioning help engineer success for our girls and give them the confidence to persevere and the resilience to bounce back when faced with adversity.
Our allotment is one of my favourite parts of our school and our weekly Gardening Club is now back in full swing with a small group of girls working hard to busily prepare the garden for planting. We are so grateful to EHSPA who have funded a brand-new shed for our garden and Mrs Hobbs, together with a team of staff volunteers, will be working with the girls over the coming months planting, growing and harvesting vegetables, fruit and flowers.
On Wednesday we invited pupils from Chad Vale School, Woodgate Valley Primary School and Wilkinson Primary School to join us for a Choral Day. Girls in Year Three worked with our wonderful Music staff to enjoy a day of music, singing and performing in The Octagon. I am so grateful to all of the staff involved in the day and the performance of ‘A Million Dreams’ by the united choir certainly brought a tear to my eye.
Have a lovely weekend.
