It has been wonderful to welcome the girls back to school, well-rested after the half term break. This week has been jam-packed and the girls have been making the most of every opportunity. I am most grateful to our parents for their support with making our International Mother Language Day on Tuesday such a success. The day was a chance for us to celebrate British Values and to learn from other’s beliefs and traditions. Tolerance is a fundamental British value that means accepting and respecting others’ beliefs and traditions even if they are different from your own. What I noticed over the course of the day, was the curiosity demonstrated by our girls and the pride with which the girls talked about their individual heritage. In our assembly on Tuesday, I shared my family Coat of Arms and explained that I was able to trace my family back to 1457! Britain has certainly changed a lot since then, but I feel privileged to have grown up in a country rich in a diverse mix of different cultures. So, it was with great pride that I watched my remarkable pupils embrace the chance to immerse themselves in Mother Language Day – sharing their own family’s heritage and finding out about their peers.
A highlight for me this week was my first experience of the Prep Musician of the Year final. This was a highly anticipated event, with every girl from Year Three to Year Six having been involved in auditioning for the competition. The final was of an extraordinarily high standard with a range of performances from different instruments including voice, guitar, piano, violin, flute and GhuZheng! I am always astonished at the confidence with which our girls take to the stage and, on Wednesday evening, I was not disappointed. All of the girls performing demonstrated courage, aspiration and perseverance. For our winners, it was a joyous occasion...but for those who did not receive the longed-for accolade, it was somewhat more of a challenge. So, to all of those girls who made it to the final, I would like to thank you for making me so proud. Your courage and creativity was astonishing.
