Summer of Physics Discovery for Year 10

Senior School

13 September 2024

This summer, some of our Year 10 students, now Year 11, had the exciting opportunity to gain work experience at the University of Birmingham Physics Experience Scheme, delving into the fascinating world of physics.

Here’s what Anya D. had to say about her four-day experience on the University campus:

"On Tuesday, 06 August, we arrived at Poynting Bridge Study Room at the University of Birmingham, for a 10am start. It was a relief to spot some familiar faces from EHS. We were soon split into two groups and spent the first day developing our problem-solving skills.

Over the next few days, we met with researchers from different areas of physics and developed our knowledge on various topics, from Astrophysics to Quantum Technology and Nuclear Physics. We took part in some really exciting activities and one of the highlights was constructing part of the Periodic Table of Nuclear Physics—using Lego blocks! And, we spent our final afternoon building and successfully launching a paper rocket in the lecture room.

What an invaluable insight into a Physics career pathway.”
