The Beautiful Game
05 July 2024
Football is everywhere and as a nation we really seem to love it. England fans up and down the country are hooked. We love to watch, spectate, comment on and ride the emotional rollercoaster of the highs and the lows of the competitive nature of football.
You don’t need to speak the same language as your opponents, you don’t need anything more than a ball and some makeshift goalposts to play and you can unite groups of people together in a simple 90 minute match. No matter your gender, race, background or experience it is a sport that is celebrating inclusivity and continues to break down barriers.
In memory of Ms Hayday, one of EHS’s biggest football fanatics, EHS have hosted their first (and hopefully not last!) football tournament, the Hayday Heroes House Football Event.
On Wednesday 26 June, the House Captains took the new House football teams down to the Sports Field, ready to play against each other in an exciting tournament. Who out of these worthy contenders would become the first Hayday Heroes Football Champions?
St Andrew’s Angels
St David’s Dragons
St Francis’s Fairies
Paris St George
St Patrick’s Panthers
After ten adrenaline-fuelled matches, expertly commentated by Mr Rees and Mr Wiggins, and under the guidance of referees Mr Ball and Mr Coley, St David’s Dragons reigned supreme to take the title of ‘Hayday Heroes Champions’.
In addition, the following prizes were awarded for excellent achievements on the pitch during the tournament:
Golden Boot – Jemima Harlin
Golden Glove – Sophie Bushell
Player of the Tournament – Vanessa Danelczyk
A big thank you to Mrs Lee for providing refreshments at the cake and sweet treats stall. And another big thank you for Mrs Coley who adorned the girls with face painting and glitter.
The biggest thank you of all goes to the amazing PE Department who organised the event – a very fun afternoon was had by all!
