A Fun-Filled Musical Treat for Early Years Pupils

Preparatory

14 March 2025

This week, our Early Years pupils had an exciting and immersive workshop at the Music School, where they engaged in a variety of musical activities designed to inspire creativity and joy.

The morning began with a journey through We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, a beloved story brought to life through singing, movement, and acting. The children enthusiastically played percussion instruments as they navigated different parts of the adventure—becoming snowflakes in a blustery snowstorm, wading through deep, sticky mud, and tiptoeing as quietly as possible.

Next, they sang Down in the Jungle, a firm favourite among the students. They eagerly contributed to the song by selecting different animals for each verse, making it an interactive and dynamic experience. The session also introduced them to a new song, where they discovered that in Africa, the Zulu people greet each other with Sanibonani!

The final activity introduced the girls to a music composition app on their iPads. Using drawings as a form of expression, they created their very own short musical compositions, exploring sound in a fun and intuitive way.

The workshop was a fantastic blend of storytelling, singing, movement, and digital creativity. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on experience, embracing new challenges with enthusiasm and imagination.
