A peek at learning in Year 2

Preparatory

05 April 2019

Girls in Year 2 have been enjoying their learning with a range of written and practical activities.

In Science they have been looking at what conditions are needed to grow a healthy plant. The girls looked at whether the cress seeds needed water and/or light to grow into healthy green plants and the results can be seen in the photographs. From their experiments and observations the girls concluded that the cress seeds needed water and light to grow healthily.

They have also been looking at space as a recent topic and were surprised when a ‘special visitor’ arrived in their classrooms. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing, ‘Neil Armstrong’ visited them. The girls put Neil on the ‘hot seat’ and asked some great questions to find out about his experience of being the first man on the moon all of which extended their knowledge.

In English, girls are learning to use speech marks using one of their favourite stories, ‘Not Now Bernard’ by David McKee which will be 40 years old next year! They have also been using mathematical skills working on their problem solving and reasoning skills whilst studying position, movement and directions.
Headteacher’s Awards have been presented to girls for some very impressive work in these subjects.
