A Sporting Festival

01 July 2022

Wednesday 29 June dawned as a rather grey day, windy and dull. The question on the minds of all staff, girls and parents from Nursery to Year 6 was whether or not Prep Sports Day would happen.

After a visit to the field to assess the situation it was decided that we could start the day with Sports event number one. Nursery, Kindergarten and Reception girls set off for the playing fields full of excitement. Nursery enjoyed a range of races in their colour teams, which included fancy dress and different pieces of equipment.

Kindergarten and Reception parents gathered on the field for the variety of races for their daughters. Again, there were races including hoops, balls, bean bags, sacks, egg and spoon and lots of running. The girls were introduced to a world of competition with the focus being on participation.

After a short break, we moved to Sports event two. We had waved farewell to the EYFS parents and then welcomed Year 1 and 2 parents to join us. The girls again were really looking forward to representing their Houses and gave their best in all of their races.  There was also much vocal support for their classmates. After a traditional mix of flat races and races involving equipment, the winner was announced as Curie, by just one point!

The afternoon arrived and we were still fingers crossed about the weather but we need not have worried, as the sun finally shone and Sports event number three took place.  The older girls in Years 3 – 6 had already competed their field event and the afternoon featured races on the track. Girls ran in 60m, 80m, 200m, 100m and 600m and a number of relays including the specially designed Commonwealth Relay.

This Inter House event was fast paced and full of excellent skills which they were clearly well prepared for. There was much support and friendship on show alongside the desire to do well for their Houses. The winners of this event were Frank House.

Well done to all girls for demonstrating sporting excellence and great sportsmanship.
