A visitor from Birmingham Royal Ballet

Senior School

20 September 2019

We were pleased to announce and give further details of our annual trip to see The Nutcracker at the Birmingham Hippodrome during Music Assembly last week. Each year, students in Year 7 study elements of this much-loved production in their Music, Dance and Drama classes, concluding the unit by going to see Sir Peter Wright’s famous production for Birmingham Royal Ballet.

We were very lucky to be joined for this assembly by Hamish Scott, artist at Birmingham Royal Ballet, who performed two short extracts from the ballet. The first, ‘Jack in the Box’ from Act one, was a powerful and energetic character dance showcasing the ‘toy’ brought to life by Drosselmeyer.  The second demonstration was the Princes variation from Act two, this also demonstrated considerable athleticism while combining the elegance and artistry of the Prince character.

I am sure that the students will be looking forward to seeing the production in December.  For the first time we will be offering all students the opportunity to go on this trip, on a first come first served basis.  If you would like to attend, please complete the online reply slip that has been sent to all parents via email.
