Artists Showcase Talent and Technical Skill

Senior School | Sixth Form

06 May 2022

We were treated to an incredible display of talent at the Art department’s Showcase this morning. A display of artwork on easels was complemented by a video show reel put together by Mr James. Set to an eclectic soundtrack the video celebrates the work produced by all years and encompasses all areas of the Art department, illustrating the remarkable talent, technical skill and creativity of our young artists.

Art Scholars Anna and Lauren spoke about the work of the department over the past academic year. KS3 pupils who completed a series of observation drawing tasks in the areas of Ceramics, Graphics and Fine Art in order to develop their technical skills and also submitted a series of art history assignments which has involved delving into the world of artists such as Caravaggio, Gainsborough, Monet, Van Gogh and Frida Kahlo. Students opting for stretch and challenge activities have completed cross curricular tasks involving elements of History, Politics, Language and Geography.

Art remains a popular co-curricular choice for EHS girls and at lunchtime art studios have been bustling with clubs such as Blank Canvas, Pixel Chix, Clay Club and Graphics Club with after school sessions providing much-needed studio time for Year 10 and above.

The department also opened their doors to pupils in Prep last term, running charcoal portrait workshops with Year 5 and Adobe Photoshop workshops with Year 6, which proved very popular.

Staff have been delighted to reward pupils with ‘EHS Artist of the Term’ certificates in recognition of their outstanding talent and pupils in Year 13 have been preparing portfolios for university interviews in preparation for their post a level study in Graphic communication - we wish them well with their continued journey in this area.
Well done to everyone for their creative endeavours and hard work this year and we would like to wish every success to students in Year 11 and 13 who are handing in their final portfolio submissions next week.
