Bright. Young. Things Wows the Audience
29 November 2024
This week, the Drama Department proudly presented Bright. Young. Things by Georgia Christou, performed by talented students from Years 9 to 11. Staged in the Octagon over two evenings, the play provided a humorous yet insightful look at the intense pressures young people face in striving for success.
Set within the high-stakes world of a reality TV show, the story follows six remarkable young geniuses competing for the coveted Golden Brain trophy and the title of ‘Britain’s Brainiest Child’. As the competition heats up, the contestants grapple with challenges that go far beyond questions they ever expected, raising poignant questions about the meaning of success and the price of ambition.
The students’ dedication, creativity and love for drama shone brightly throughout the play. Reflecting on the experience, cast members Scarlett, Raya, and Milly shared:
"Bright. Young. Things has been an explosion of emotion for the cast. We worked tirelessly to bring this play to life, and it has been an unforgettable journey. This show
strengthened our passion for acting and created memories we will always cherish. One standout moment was when we reminded Miss Rowntree how often she told us we had ‘worked
like Trojans.’ We are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved and hope the audience enjoyed it as much as we did."
The production also had a meaningful purpose beyond the stage, supporting the charity Young Minds as the cast collected voluntary donations to promote mental health awareness for young people.
Congratulations to the cast and crew for delivering such a brilliant and memorable production. Their hard work and creativity brought this compelling story to life and left
the audience thoroughly entertained.
