Junior Swimmers Excel at ESSA Finals

Senior School

29 November 2024

The ESSA (English Schools Swimming Association) Finals, held on 17 November 2024, at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Birmingham, brought together the top 30 secondary school swimming teams from across England. This prestigious event, now in its 66th year, included teams who qualified through regional championships. Participants competed in relay events across three age categories: Junior (Years 7-8), Intermediate (Years 9-10), and Senior (Years 11-13). The main races were the 4x50m Freestyle and 4x50m Medley relays.

Among the competing teams was EHS’s Junior swimming team, comprised of Cora B, Izzy P, Livi M, and Charlotte J. After qualifying as the highest Midlands school in the regional round held in September, the team proudly represented EHS at this national-level competition.

Facing off against some of the best swimming schools in England, the team swam phenomenally well, achieving impressive national placements: 14th in the Freestyle relay and 17th in the Medley relay.

This marks the fifth year in a row that EHS has reached the national finals, highlighting the school’s dedication to swimming excellence.

The event showcased outstanding performances from schools, with some teams breaking records and achieving high placements despite intense competition from elite-level swimmers. It also served as an opportunity for young athletes to demonstrate their skills, teamwork and sportsmanship on a national level.

A huge well done to team EHS for their hard work and achievement!
