GSA Photography Competition Finalists
29 November 2024
We are delighted that Naomi (Year 9) and Alya (Year 8) reached the final stage of the 2024 prestigious Girls' School Association Photography Competition. Their photographs reflect on this year’s theme of ‘Time’ in unique and thought-provoking ways. Both Naomi and Alya impressed the judges with their distinctive perspectives, representing EHS with exceptional talent.
Naomi’s 'Misty Moments' photograph, taken during a family trip to Osaka, Japan, reflects on how people experience time differently:
“This photograph was taken in Osaka, Japan, during a family trip a few years ago. While searching through my photo album for inspiration, this photo stuck out to me because of its peaceful but intriguing mood. Tracing my mind back, I was wandering with my new bought camera, and I noticed the train passing by. I thought about how, even though we all live in the same world with the same amount of time, we spend it in such different ways: the passengers were quietly taking their time on the train while I was taking mine to observe and capture the moment. It’s a simple but meaningful reminder of how small actions can make life special. I am deeply grateful to have been chosen as a finalist and to share this moment with others.”

Alya’s 'Generation Plastic' entry, rooted in her passion for the environment, highlights an important issue:
“The idea behind my photograph is that the world is being consumed by single use plastic waste. It is an idea of what the near future could be if we do not act against the plastic we use so often in our day-to-day lives. The environment has always been a passion of mine and I am always trying to find new ways to be more environmentally friendly.”
