Carol service marks end of term

Senior School | Sixth Form

14 December 2018

Earlier this week, Senior School pupils, staff and friends of EHS came together to celebrate the forthcoming festive period with the traditional Carol Service at St George’s Church.

After a warm welcome from the Reverend John Flitcroft, the Christmas message was conveyed through a traditional service of Lessons and Carols, eloquently read by pupil representatives from each year group: Emma Burns, Carmen Sanchez Diamante, Fareedat Kenyon, Ying Qi, Georgia Marfoh-Hoare and Mariam Al-Ani, and closed with a reading of ‘BC:AD’ by U.A. Fanthorpe, read by Head Girl Briony Chitty.

The service of well-loved carols and hymns was enhanced by interludes from the school’s choirs. Between them, Senior and Chamber choirs sung a varied repertoire and delighted the congregation with their sound and poise, performing ‘O Sleep, Thou Heav’n Born Treasure’, ‘Cool Yule’, ‘Ponder the Path of Thy Feet’ and culminating with a rendition of ‘Mary’s Cradle Song’.

With not a seat spare, the occasion was a fitting way for the school community to come together ahead of the season’s festivities.
