Roman feast for Saturnalia
15 December 2017
On Thursday 7 December, the Classics department hosted a Saturnalia feast for all of Year 7. The Romans traditionally celebrated this festival by having the masters serve the slaves a meal and with the exchange of gifts. In order to celebrate what the ancient poet Catullus referred to as ‘best of days’ the department served Year 7 a range of foods that the Romans would have traditionally eaten, including cake, fruit, bread with honey and cheeses.
Year 7 had a wonderful time celebrating and learning more about Saturnalia as well as what the study of Classics involves from our Sixth Form helpers. Many thanks to all involved - and Happy Saturnalia!
