Awards Ceremony celebrates academic success

Senior School | Parents

06 October 2017

Last Friday, Senior School held its annual Awards Ceremony. In the presence of invited guests, the school celebrated the academic achievements of pupils in Years 7-10 during 2016- 2017.

Prizes for Outstanding Academic Achievement were awarded to pupils who had performed particularly well in their end of year examinations.

Certificates for Achievement in Individual Subjects were awarded to pupils who had shown a considerable aptitude and sustained enthusiasm for particular subjects.

Certificates for Progress were given to those pupils who, as evidenced by the school database, had made the most progress during the course of the academic year.

Certificates for Effort were awarded on the basis of staff nomination to those pupils who staff felt had worked consistently hard during the whole year.

Although the main focus of the afternoon was, undoubtedly, a celebration of the many academic achievements of our pupils, we also took the opportunity afforded by the occasion to showcase and enjoy the wider talents of our students in a variety of musical and dance performances.

Mary Smith-Holmes’ (Year 9) trombone performance captured perfectly the humour of Parker’s lively piece entitled ‘Dances with Bears’. This was followed by an exciting dance performance by Ruby Abbas, Charlotte Baker and Ellie McGuiggan- Smith (all in the Sixth Form) which the girls themselves, had choreographed. Eryna Kisumba (Year 12) then gave a virtuosic cello performance of two movements from Vivaldi’s ‘Sonata No 7’. As a little foretaste of the school’s production of Lloyd Webber’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’, this most enjoyable occasion concluded with the duet ’All I Ask of You’ beautifully performed by Esther Simkiss and Oliver Daniels who will be playing the roles of Christina and Raoul when the show opens in the Octagon on Tuesday, 31 October.

Congratulations to all of the award winners and grateful thanks to all who contributed towards the staging of this event. We now look forward to celebrating the successes of this academic year.

Mrs Coley
Deputy Head Pastoral
