Classicists attend BMCA academic lecture
29 November 2019
On Thursday 21 November, the Classics department took a group of girls from Years 10-13 studying Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation to an academic lecture at the University of Birmingham. This was hosted by the Birmingham Midlands Classical Association (BMCA), who invited guest lecturer Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones from the University of Cardiff to speak.
Dr Llewellyn-Jones is a leading expert in classical reception, in particular in Hollywood film. He also specialises in Iranian culture, which was the broad basis of his lecture. Dr Llewellyn-Jones spoke about the portrayal of the Persians in the Hollywood film ‘300’, which was captivating for the audience. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the lecture and were inspired by Dr Llewellyn-Jones’ delivery. We look forward to the next academic lecture in the New Year.
