Classicists Explore Ancient Tragedy
02 February 2024
On Friday, Sixth Form Classical Civilisation students attended the Warwick Drama Festival. This year it was centred around Aeschylus’ The Persians. We began our day with an academic lecture on 5th century BC Athenian theatre and attended subsequent lectures specific to the themes and performance of the tragedy.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed lectures and seminars from leading academics in the ancient Greek theatre field. The day ended with a performance of The Persians which allowed the girls to understand the weight of a tragic performance and compare it to last year’s comic play. It was a wonderful day of academic enrichment and the girls have lots of new perspectives to include in their writing for the Greek Theatre and Democracy units.
