Classics Club at Home!
08 July 2020
During the lockdown period, the girls have enjoyed taking part in our Classics Club competitions. Over May Half Term we challenged the girls to research the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79. The girls built their own models of the volcano and re-created the eruption with baking soda and vinegar! We very much enjoyed watching the videos which the girls sent in and we congratulate them on their creativity. Well done to Shyni Werasinghe (Year 9), Maddie Bowler, Ekyjot Kaur, Karishma Mangal (all in Year 8) and Layla Majad (Year 7)!
Our next competition had an Olympic theme, in place of the actual games due to be held this year. We showed the girls some ancient Greek vases depicting Olympic sports and asked them to go on a virtual vase trail round the museums of the world! The girls were asked to find the museum that housed each vase and name the sport on the vases. Well done to Anula Oates and Sophie McCusker in Year 9 who were the fastest to complete the trail!
We look forward to celebrating these girls’ successes at the Key Stage 3 Awards! Very well done, enjoy the holidays and if anyone wishes to expand their classical horizons further over the summer then please access Extend, Enrich, Enjoy for suggestions!
