Discovering the Magic of Maths

Senior School

07 June 2024

Year 7 mathematicians learned more about how maths is all around us when they visited one of the UK’s most popular attractions. Here Anabel tells us about her experience at Legoland Windsor.

When we first arrived at the meeting point, we were greeted by a huge Lego figure made entirely out of mini Lego bricks. We soon figured that there were thousands of these life size creations around the park. Our first activity was to collect data in Miniland; an area full of famous landmarks and buildings once again built from Lego bricks. Specifically, we had to find out how long each model took to make, how many bricks it was built from and how many people it took to create using fact files found on stands around the park. The results could only be described as unbelievable. It was astonishing to know that many of these took over 200 hours to construct. This data will be analysed in our upcoming maths lessons.

At last, it was time to explore the rides and rollercoasters for ourselves. There were illusion simulators, rides that soaked you with water, a submarine that took you underwater to meet deep sea creatures and tonnes of snacks varying from candy floss to bubble tea, so there was no chance of getting hungry. A visit to the gift shop was also necessary.

Sadly, as the trip neared its end and after five hours of excitement, we had to board the coach to depart. It was a wonderful experience and every girl who attended will certainly agree it was a great trip to remember.
