Senior School marks World Book Day

Senior School | Sixth Form

15 March 2019

Each year pupils and staff at EHS throw themselves into a whole hearted celebration of World Book Day and this year did not disappoint.

Our more traditionally formal assembly focusing on vocabulary and reading was held and then followed by a more informal assembly where everyone dressed up for the big day. Pupils in Years 7 - 13 were decked out as their favourite book characters and even staff went to some extreme lengths! A special commendation must go to Mr Smith as Private Peaceful, Mr Dukes as a WW1 soldier and Mrs Coley as a Mandrake from Harry Potter.

This year we also invited Years 4, 5 and 6 from Prep to join us for the assembly. They watched the Sixth Form parade into assembly in their form themes and then at the end they also got to cast their votes on who they wanted to win.

Girls in the Sixth Form went all out and this year all costumes were themed on our most popular and well-loved books:

SFH - Divergent
SFCP - Mary Poppins
SFN - The Rainbow Fairies
SFF - The Jungle Book
SFG - The Chronicles of Narnia
SFDR - Children Books on TV
SFSD - Villains
SFKR - Army

Some dramatic routines, skits and dances accompanied the costumes: Aslan was murdered, armies were rallied, chimney sweeps danced and animals came in two by two!
Thank you to all staff and pupils for another great year of celebrating reading - a day that once again proves there’s nowhere quite like EHS!
