Inspiration at V&A Museum

Senior School

07 December 2018

Last weekend, an excited group of Year 11 D&T Textiles students visited London. It was an early start, but everyone was looking forward to the day ahead.

Firstly, we visited the V&A Museum to see their fantastic exhibition, ‘Fashioned by Nature’. We learnt about the ethical decisions involved in the process of developing the fibres and manufacturing garments throughout time. We also had a small amount of free time to look at the other exhibitions such as the costumes from The Lion King and a wide range of historical apparel.

We then travelled by tube to Covent Garden to grab a bite to eat whilst marvelling at the amazing Christmas festivities. Afterwards we spent some time visiting different fabric shops, looking at the different weights and textures of fabrics, some of which cost £150 per metre!

The next stop was Liberty's Department Store, which was packed with Christmas shoppers. We managed to enjoy the array of Christmas decorations around the store as well as considering what has made Liberty’s such a popular brand. We were then allowed a short time to venture on to Oxford Street looking at various shops such as H&M and Topshop before heading back to Birmingham after a truly enjoyable day.

We would like to thank Mrs Mooney, Miss Murray, Mrs Syer and Mrs Hall for taking us to London.
