Inspiration on World Poetry Day
23 March 2018
As part of the Bournville BookFest, Year 5 were delighted to be invited to hear the fantastic poet and author Michael Rosen speak at a special schools event on Wednesday 21 March.
The Octagon was buzzing with excitement as Matt Windle, the poet laureate for Birmingham, delivered his introduction. He had been given random words with the challenge of linking them together and was incredibly successful!
Michael Rosen then took to the floor. He had the audience completely in his hands, providing sound effects for his stories and laughing enthusiastically. Apparently, he is 3,071 years old and was brought up in the Stone Age!
We learnt some Yiddish vocabulary and how Michael was inspired to write by his brother who used to mimic his father’s expressions.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed his stories and have hopefully been inspired to write some poetry.
