World Trampoline Gymnastics Championships
17 November 2023
On Thursday this week, girls in Year 4 had a unique and exciting opportunity to attend the World Age Groups Competitions as part of the FIG World Trampoline Gymnastics
Championships at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.
EHS girls were incredibly supportive of the international gymnasts they saw competing from over 40 countries at the primary qualification event for the Paris 2024 Olympic
Games. The highly competitive event showcased the talents of young athletes aged 11-21 vying for top honours in Trampoline, Synchronised Trampoline, Tumbling and Double
Mini-Trampoline events. Our girls were captivated and in awe of double and triple somersaults and twists on the tumbling track. We witnessed visually stunning performances in
every rotation with some gymnasts reaching heights of 10m from the trampoline bed. Girls saw the reality of competition with disappointment and exhilaration, witnessing
true resilience and passion.
One of our eager gymnasts said, “I love to see what kind of costumes they wear and what flicks and tricks they do. But most of all I loved the tumbling - seeing how high they go and whether they stick their landing.”
A highlight of the day for all the girls was seeing our old friend Perry, the Commonwealth mascot who brought an abundance of energy and fun to a thrilling event.
