Learning in Year 2
28 January 2022
Girls in Year 2 have been using ICT to develop their knowledge and understanding of the humanities subjects. These are all subjects that the girls enjoy and our two ICT suites provide the perfect venues for developing technology skills.
In Geography, they used an atlas to help locate the major cities of the UK. In History, they extended their knowledge of the work of Florence Nightingale. The girls also further developed their ICT skills by logging into the computers, opening and closing programs and switching between them.
Science lessons have offered the opportunity for Year 2 girls to investigate colours and light in their science lessons this term. This week they carried out a chromatography investigation to see which colours are used to create their felt tip pens. Pupils are looking forward to a trip to The Think Tank Museum in a few weeks to reinforce what they are learning about in school.
Year 2 are also developing their creative writing skills. They are learning to broaden their vocabulary using exciting adjectives and writing noun phrases using commas.
In pairs, the girls sorted a selection of adjectives into those that were appropriate to describe a fairy tale palace and discarded those that were not suitable. They then wrote individual descriptive paragraphs about the story setting.
The next step is to continue exploring interesting adjectives to describe a character and then to use all of this knowledge to write a story.
We cannot wait to read these!
