The Time Traveller’s Wife – Audrey Niffenegger – suitable for Year 9+
“The Time Traveller’s Wife” is a classic in the making. The story follows Claire and husband Henry as they navigate his time travelling. Flitting throughout his own timeline, Henry doesn’t know when it will happen. Their romance is unconventional to say the least. An emotional rollercoaster read.
Sky Song – Abi Elphinstone – suitable for all
“Sky Song” is the first standalone novel by Abi Elphinstone, following her Dreamsnatcher series. It takes us to Erkenwald, where magic has been abandoned and the evil Queen strives to lock out the Sky Gods forever. Three tribes inhabit this world, Tusk, Feather and Fur, but the saviour won’t belong to any of them. Will the tribes unite to save their world or will they succumb to the queen’s trapped voices calling them to her? A gripping adventure, testing the limits of loyalty and friendship!
After the Fall – Charity Norman – suitable for Year 9+
“After the Fall” is a tragic story, beginning at the end the book takes us on an unpredictable journey. Having upped sticks and moved all the way to New Zealand, the McNamara family were hoping for a fresh start. Fast forward and a five-year-old has been airlifted from the house having fallen from a balcony. Mother Martha must make some impossible decisions as she tries to keep her family safe and together. You will be guessing at the ending from the very first page – very few will guess right!
The Falcon’s Malteser – Anthony Horowitz – suitable for all
“The Falcon’s Malteser” is the comic detective series written by author of the Alex Rider series. Enter Tim Diamond, worst private detective ever, and his younger, smarter, wiser younger brother. When a dwarf comes into the office and leaves a box containing nothing more than maltesers, you will be filled with questions. Why bring a private detective a box of maltesers? Why did he die shortly after his visit? And most importantly, what kind of adventure will this lead to for Tim Diamond? The first in a hilarious series where weird and wacky crimes come knocking!
