Lifesaving Club Makes a Splash

Senior School | Sixth Form

20 September 2024

Monday marked the exciting start of this year's Lifesaving Club, and what a start it was! Alongside myself, Mrs. Batchelor, and our 8 Assistant Lifesaving Instructors (Year 11 and 12 pupils), we were thrilled to welcome 72 participants! With over 80 girls now enrolled, this is an unprecedented turnout, making it one of the largest clubs at EHS.

The session kicked off with assessments to gauge swimming abilities and discuss the work for the term ahead.

This year is especially significant as the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) celebrates its 100th anniversary. Founded by Henry William Nawrocki, the RLSS began in 1891, though its work was interrupted by World War I. By the 1920s, it was re-established, and today, it continues to thrive.

To mark this centenary, our girls will be working towards the 100 Years Commemorative Award, which covers a wide range of lifesaving skills, including CPR and the different rescue techniques that can be performed.

We are excited for the journey ahead as our girls work towards this award, with some even aiming to achieve the prestigious Bronze Medallion Distinction Award!

It's set to be an incredible year of learning, growth, and new skills for all involved!
