Millie is in the zone

Not to be outdone by sister Megan’s sailing achievements, Year 7 pupil Millie has been awarded a place in the Royal Yachting Association’s (RYA) Midland Zone Topper Squad.
Squad selection is based on a single day racing event, the Regional Junior Championships result, and performance at a training day. The top six boys and top six girls are then selected based on their race results and are invited to participate in six training weekends over the Winter run, delivered by the RYA coaching team. Millie had to get used to a new class of boat and very strong winds at the selector events but her technique enabled her to sail fast and flat through the chop to claim her place.
The Zone squads are a pathway to the National squad which in turn feeds into the Youth squad with the eventual aim of the programme being Olympic selection!
