Music on a Summer's Evening
22 June 2018
The annual Prep Summer Concert took place last week to a packed audience of parents and friends in Senior School Hall.
Having enjoyed our soloists’ performances at the Tea Time Concert the previous week this event featured the Prep School ensembles.
The concert opened with the Prep Orchestra who were accompanied on the piano by Derwent, one of our Year 6 Music prefects. This was followed by performances from the Guitar,
Flute, and String Ensembles. These groups were made up of girls from across Years 3 – 6 and it is always good to see the girls supporting each other in the playing.
We had two special vocal performances during the evening. One was from Maia Kanagaratnam, our Prep Young Musician of the Year 2018 who was the only soloist to perform. She sang Sound of Music and had the audience completely engaged by her very mature rendition. Well done Maia!
The Marigolds, our singing group also entertained us with several songs. These girls are all pupils of Mrs Sally Allsopp who we are sadly saying goodbye to at the end of term as she retires from having taught and nurtured countless EHS pupils.
The concert was closed by our Senior Prep Choir who were accompanied by Rebecca, our other Music Prefect, who has become a regular accompanist in our Prep School assemblies.
Thank you to Mrs Howell and all of the Music teachers who prepared the girls so well for the event.
