Netballers Play for GSA Cup
30 September 2022
The Year 8 netball team started the sporting season with a trip to Condover Hall, setting off on Friday afternoon with a weekend full of netball and outdoor adventure activities ahead of them.
As they arrived at Condover they soon checked into their rooms, grabbed a quick bite to eat and then began to navigate their way around the grounds, trying out various activities in between. The girls enjoyed rock climbing, abseiling, laser conquest and laser maze. Later on that evening they were treated to a Q&A session with England Future Roses star, Ella Bowen, learning about what it takes to become an elite netballer and the journey Ella had been on.
The next morning the girls were up bright and early for a full day of netball fixtures. Fuelled with helpings of scrambled eggs and pain au chocolat, they made their way to Shrewsbury Sports Village for their group fixtures. The girls played extremely well, winning 5 out of their 8 matches against schools such as Bedford Girls, Tormead and The Marist School. They were also joined by Ella Bowen for some defensive tactics and a half time game of ‘Killer’! As we returned to Condover Hall the girls quickly changed and headed straight out to more activities, this time it was Aerial Trek and high ropes, followed by a silent disco.
The following morning saw another early start. We packed the bus full of suitcases and netballs and made our way to the sports village for more netball! This time we would be playing for the GSA Cup. Again facing some tough opposition, the girls won all of their group matches beating The Abbey, LEH, Channing School and Francis Holland. This meant they were through to the final of the cup and would face Manchester High. EHS showed true spirit and determination against an extremely experienced side and although they didn’t win the final it was an incredible achievement to get there and place as runners up. Congratulations to the team.
