Netballers play at Condover
13 October 2017
On Friday 22 September, an excited group of Year 9 and Year 8 pupils left school for an excited weekend of netball at Condover Hall. As soon as they arrived, girls and teachers alike got stuck into some of the fantastic activities the Condover had to offer: tunnelling and taking on the trapeze. After an exciting evening, the girls settled down to sleep, ready for the fun weekend of netball ahead.
On Saturday morning, after a filling breakfast, the girls got ready for their first tournament, which decided their place for the Sunday tournament. The team played fantastically, beating Moira House 10-1 and Withington 5-3. EHS narrowly lost out to Tormead A and St. Swithuns, however, the team were eager to build and improve on their mistakes. After a fun day of exceptional play, the team was left to choose what they wanted to do and many girls decided to have some fun at the disco, while some opted for the quieter option of watching Strictly Come Dancing with Miss Roye and Miss Jacks.
On the final morning, the mood was sombre as the girls packed up their bags and got ready for their final tournament. The first two matches of the day were against Francis Holland and St. Catherine’s Twickenham; both games were well contested with some excellent displays of athleticism and team work. EHS drew to both of these schools and so were through to the semi-finals of the Cup Competition.
In the semi-final, EHS were drawn against The Channing School. The match got off to a ferocious start, with both teams scoring off their own centre passes. However, in the final few minutes of the game, The Channing School were able to capitalise off an interception and the final score was 9-6. The squad played fantastically and should be commended for placing 9th out of 19 schools from all over the country.
Thank you to Miss Roye and Miss Jacks for sacrificing their weekend to accompany the girls to Condover. Hopefully this success will carry forward for the rest of the season.
