06 December 2024

As we approach the final weeks of term, I am reminded of the importance of shared values. Since September, staff have worked hard to begin to embed the key EHS values in every aspect of school life and the girls have grown in confidence with their understanding of how important they are. Courage, creativity, aspiration, perseverance, responsibility, excellence and inclusivity have become an integral part of the girls’ teaching and learning experience. As the whole school gathered together on the terrace last Friday for our Christmas Tree lights switch on, I felt a huge sense of pride at the sense of community that I was surrounded by.

This term, I have set high expectations for staff and pupils alike and they have risen to the challenge. In turn, the growth that I have witnessed since September is quite remarkable. Every opportunity we provide for the pupils in our care, is a chance for growth and this was clearly evident when our Year One and Two girls took to the stage on Tuesday, with their performance of ‘The Fleece Force’. We are fortunate enough to have the most incredible performance space for our girls, in The Octagon. It is a breathtaking space, with professional standard lighting and sound rigs, but the girls were not out of place. They rose to the challenge and, as I found myself roaring with laughter at the jokes so confidently delivered, it was easy to forget that these students were 5, 6 and 7 years old!

My grateful thanks go to all of the staff members who have been involved in preparations for our Christmas performances this year. Planning and organising high quality productions is no mean feat, but providing performing arts opportunities in front of an audience is such an invaluable experience for our pupils.

Aiming high and stretching and challenging students is a regular occurrence in Mrs Eveleigh’s Science Laboratory, but this term she has also been the driving force behind success in an international coding competition. She has supported girls from Years Three to Six to take part in the Bebras challenge. The Bebras Challenge is an international online competition that introduces students to computational thinking and informatics. Mrs Eveleigh’s drive and dedication has resulted in significant success for our girls, in fact our school’s average score of 177 is a source of pride, standing significantly higher than both the West Midlands average of 133 and the UK average of 125.

The festive celebrations and performances planned for the coming week, will be a chance for us to come together as a school community, to reflect on the past year and to be thankful for the opportunities we are so fortunate to have. I look forward to welcoming our families into school and to share these celebrations with you all.

With warmest wishes,

Mrs Hobson
