News from Head of Prep

Preparatory

15 November 2024

Kindness has been in evidence across the school this week and it is a value that I hold very dear to my heart. It is such a privilege to educate the girls in our care and it is imperative that we are helping to prepare them for any challenges that may lie ahead. We want to ensure that we are preparing them academically, but also helping them to become the best versions of themselves. I often say to the girls that, if in doubt, be kind.

Our Remembrance Service on Monday was a poignant reminder of how fortunate we are. My thanks go to Miss Deacon who, together with representatives of History club, delivered a unique assembly whereby the girls were taught the importance of remembering, through Roger Hargreaves’ tale of Mr Forgetful. We held a minute’s silence and Jessica, our Deputy Head Girl, played ‘Reveille’ on her violin to mark the end of this silence.

To support Anti-Bullying week, our focus has been on kindness. Together, the children created a Unity tree, which is proudly on display in reception. This tree holds messages from every child in the school and is a powerful symbol reminding everyone that bullying can be prevented when we all come together – united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. On Tuesday, the girls gained a great deal of enjoyment from wearing odd socks as part of Odd Socks Day. It was a chance to discuss the importance of respecting and valuing our differences.

The girls will not always make positive choices, but this is because they are learning. It is how we react to these mistakes and how we support them to move forward with positivity and kindness.

Have a peaceful weekend.
