Girls were very pleased to return to school following half term and we gave a warm welcome to the new girls who joined us in Years 3 and 6.
We began the week with a special assembly from our Year 6 Librarians who introduced a number of new initiatives for the girls to enjoy. These include joining Paddington to find out about different cultures from around the world, focus on special days and our Curiosity Corner. The Librarians, who are enjoying their roles of responsibility, are looking forward to receiving book recommendations and suggestions for other new additions too.
Firework safety and remembering that this time of year can be frightening for people and animals was the theme for our younger Prep girls whilst the older girls welcomed Mrs Crimp to their assembly. Mrs Crimp, Deputy Head Curriculum and geography teacher from Senior School shared her passion for her subject and information about the school trips to Iceland. We are all keen to visit this fascinating place now.
Year 6 girls who have now finished all of their entrance examinations to Senior Schools have enjoyed their first school trip this week. They have been to Lapworth Museum of Geology to further their Geography knowledge of volcanoes and earthquakes.
There was a new experience for some of our Year 3 girls who performed in their first Teatime Concert. It was an evening of other firsts too as we had a performance on the harmonium, a very pink guitar and a rap performance. The concert included 28 performers from Years 3 and 4 and 8 different instruments. Some of our musicians were beginners and others more seasoned performers but we thoroughly enjoyed all of their performances. We are looking forward to joining the girls on their musical journeys.
Our large pumpkin grown by the girls at the allotment has caused some excitement this week. The girls will have the opportunity to guess the weight of the pumpkin next week with a prize for the closest guess. Some practice of estimating heavy weights would be a good idea during the weekend in readiness for the final weigh-in. Congratulations to our Year 6 gardeners who clearly have green fingers.
Next week Year 6 have a workshop to look forward to and Year 1 a school trip. Girls in Year 2 and 4 will be busy preparing their productions to perform for parents later in the term. We also look forward to seeing many families at the EHSPA firework party on Saturday.
