It is hard to believe we have already been back at school for two full weeks as time has passed quickly.  Girls are now well settled and have adapted to the routines of school and their new year groups extremely well. They are also hard at work too and enjoying the new challenges in a wide range of subjects.

In Westbourne, in addition to enjoying the outside classroom girls in Reception have been busy identifying and grouping two dimensional shapes.

Year 1 girls have been putting their technology skills to good use whilst programming Beebots. The girls guided the little robots so well that they could be found scurrying across the classroom, around and under furniture.

In Year 2 the girls have been enjoying exploring numbers and mathematical symbols. They have also considered the qualities they value in their friends with kindness being the most important.  This is a message we promote regularly across the age groups.

Putting their writing and drawing skills to good use the girls in Year 3 have reflected on their summer holidays and have written postcards to each other to share their various experiences. Their Science lessons have also offered the opportunity to study different types of rock and to record their observations. In the older years the girls have been developing their teamwork skills in their Science lessons. They had to problem solve together to try to draw a picture without touching the pen.

It has also been encouraging to be able to celebrate the girls’ successes with them and in our first Celebration Assembly of the term we presented Well Done certificates to girls in Years 1 and 2 for a range of academic and personal achievements. There were also awards for Music examinations presented to girls from Years 3 to 6. We congratulated Avani, Imogen, Amara, Cora, Florence, and Eliza for success in singing. There were also further awards for Aliyya on Flute and Asees and Catrin on piano.

Having written some extremely interesting questions to pose to Roald Dahl characters last week, this week’s challenge is an artistic one. It is linked to International Dot Day, which was on Wednesday 15 September and based on the inspiring book by Peter Reynolds. We hope the girls will be inspired to be creative and ‘make their mark’.
We have ended the week with a performance from Davica, our first Morning Musician of the year. Davica played ‘Czerny, 101 Exercises, Opus 261' for us. Having recently achieved an excellent result in her Grade 4 examination she is already preparing for Grade 5. Well done indeed to all girls.
